The ME Workshop was established specifically to help
those suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME. By studying the laboratory
test results from our members we have established several conditions which
appear to be contributory factors and we feel that this information should
be made available to all sufferers.
We recommend that all ME sufferers should have the following
three laboratory test; An Adrenal Function test, a Mineral Ratio and Metal
Toxicity test as well as a test to check for an overgrowth of Candida.
By testing for and then treating these conditions we are able to help
the majority of sufferers improve their symptoms. The laboratory tests
are all easy to use non-invasive test kits. Our nutritionist provides
a full written analysis report along with a list of recommended supplements.
Each supplement programme recommended is individual and based upon laboratory
test results as well as the severity of symptoms. After three months we
recommend a re-test in order to ascertain the level of progress being
made.
Adrenal Function
The laboratory results from those we have tested have indicated that the
majority are experiencing irregularities in cortisol levels and adrenal
function. As the adrenal glands control many functions this leaves the
sufferer susceptible to other conditions such as; poor neutralisation
of heavy metals and toxins, blood pressure irregularities, poor sleep
patterns, weakened immune system, irritable bowel syndrome, mineral ratio
imbalances, candida overgrowth and low serotonin levels.
Mineral Ratio and Metal Toxicity
The majority of ME sufferers we have tested indicate an imbalance in mineral
ratios and/or metal toxicity. The test we recommend is approved by the
Environmental Protection Agency for detecting toxic metals and mineral
imbalances. It also indicates the ratio of calcium, magnesium, sodium,
potassium, copper, zinc, iron, manganese, chromium, selenium and phosphorous
present in the body tissue. The majority of sufferers indicate imbalances
in Calcium: Magnesium and Sodium: Potassium. These ratios are fundamental
in stabilising blood sugar and insulin levels and consequently we have
found that the majority of sufferers benefit from a diet aimed at stabilising
blood sugar levels.
Candida Overgrowth
Almost half of the ME sufferers we have tested have indicated an overgrowth
of candida albicans. Everyone has some candida in their intestines, but
problems occur when an overgrowth develops. Candida is an opportunist
and when conditions are right it can grow at the rate of one hundred cells
a day. We believe that high blood sugar levels caused by an adrenal imbalance
may lead to a candida overgrowth.
Correspondence Course
As many people with ME find travelling to a clinic both exhausting as
well as expensive we provide all this information in an easy to follow
correspondence course. The Starter Pack costs £9.99 and includes
the dietary programme, recipes, a shopping list, a daily food diary, laboratory
test order forms and a questionnaire book regarding symptoms and previous
diagnoses. We offer support through a telephone Help Line service with
referral to our nutritionist, monthly progress marker questionnaires and
a monthly newsletter. If required we also provide a Buddy System where
fellow members swap telephone numbers or e-mail addresses and offer one
another day to day encouragement. We offer a free information pack to
anyone interested in our work.
