| Joanna's Awareness
Week Challenge |
| As many of you will know, the objective
of ME Awareness Week is to raise much needed funds through sponsorship and
create a greater awareness of this chronic condition within the North East.
As a charity we work hard throughout the year to build important links with
schools and colleges working with young sufferers to improve their quality
of life and education. I am sure there are many of you who have often found
it extremely difficult trying to explain your illness and often hope the
understanding and acceptance of ME/CFS was more recognisable.
Through our activities during this awareness week we hope to improve and educate many who still have a limited understanding of the illness and generate important funds to continue to support our members. So how exactly are we planning to do that? For the second year running we are delighted to offer individuals the opportunity to take part in the Tyne Bridge Abseil. Last year our 70 participants raised an incredible £8,500 abseiling off this famous local landmark. We were delighted to receive great media coverage ranging from numerous newspaper articles to radio interviews and TV coverage. In addition to that we already have a number of young people who are holding their own sponsored events (car wash, cake stall, name the teddy etc). To increase awareness we now have our own ME North East t-shirts which we can post out should you want one for your event. Dr Nigel Speight, is taking time-out for a marathon 1,007 mile sponsored cycle challenge. If you need any help promoting your sponsored event or have been asked by local press / TV companies to give your experiences of living with ME then please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at the office. We can provide information packs and also a further insight into the illness. Please have a think, see what sponsored event you could undertake or how you could generate positive awareness and help us to make a difference. So please get in touch if you – friends – teachers – family members wish to take part! |
