'A review by Jennifer'
(Chief Executive ME North East)
Many of our runners did race speeds and got to the finish
line in less than 2 hours – fantastic. I had no illusions of such
an achievement. I completed the event with my sister Barbara –
we agreed we would “walk” rather than run. Whilst “training”
I had attempted to break into a jog but my body did not like this one
bit. We made it in 3hrs 33 minutes – good going for us.
The start was brilliant – charged with energy and enthusiasm.
It is true to say you need to be there to “feel it”. –
it was tremendous, amazing and truly special.
The buzz, the camaraderie, the sheer size of the event and the seas
of people, it was just overwhelming.. Emotional too – we gave
a minutes silence to reflect on why we were there and who we were running
for and the band played “abide with ME” – there wasn’t
a dry eye on the road. This made the start even more magical –
for a brief second I thought I could run it (silly girl). There was
lots of support along the way – some dips when the muscles were
shouting – but the crowd kept you going. The last mile was the
hardest – you knew you were on the last leg but the road seemed
endless – but just so wonderful to cross the finish line.
Barbara and I will do it again next year and we will be joined by several
other members of our family – why not join us – if we can
do it you can too. Interested??
Give us a call. You’ll need to be quick as we have a limited number
of places and the list is growing already!
