Independent Living Project

How we address the needs and aspirations of people living with ME wishing to lead independent lives was first floated over 3 years ago. One of our younger members suggested it do her Dad Simon, and he called ME North east to see if there was something we could do to investigate this. We began by asking a group of interested people to get together to brainstorm the possibilities of taking this further and we did come up with some bright ideas. We produced and submitted a bid, however funding was not forthcoming and we had to put the project on hold.

We have now been awarded a grant to undertake this study and look at the potential development opportunities this could lead to. We do not wish to raise unreasonable expectations, and must express this is a very first
step, a fact finding mission if you like. We would welcome support from those members who may have an interest. Perhaps this is just what you are looking for, maybe you already live independently and you could advise
us on the issues you face, or maybe you are a parent or carer who wants to help us.

We are holding an open meeting in the next few weeks. From there we will appoint a small team as a Steering Group to manage this piece of work.
