Yoga with Rachel |
I started doing yoga when I was bed bound, I used to save all my energy up and do 5 minutes of very gentle yoga postures and movements. It was the only thing I could think of that would help me build up my muscles again and getting me moving again without tiring me out or making me worse. Yoga is all about working with your body and your own limits- with yoga you are told to never push yourself and to listen to your body- which sounded perfect for me and my ME I gradually, over 6 week periods, increased my minutes to 10, 15 then 20, but always making sure my body could manage it first. Yoga became part of my life so much so I can't imagine not doing it as you gain so much from it as a person. The movements help strengthen and stretch your body, looks after your muscles and joints, massages and helps the workings of your internal organs. It helps your circulation, respiratory system, your balance, stress levels, relaxes your body and mind and helps you sleep. The benefits of yoga are endless. A lot of people think yoga is not for them as they are not flexible enough, strong enough, don't have good balance, can't relax or don't have the energy. Hopefully my classes will show you that not only is it for you, it is for everyone. We will look at standing, seated and lying stretches and I'll show you how they can be used for your own ability and some may help ease your symptoms. I'll also take you through some simple relaxations that anyone can do and that will help you feel more relaxed, calm and better in yourself. Don’t worry if you think that you cannot manage the whole class – we will have lots of breaks in between and you can dip in and out as you feel. I really hope you come along and give it a try
as I would love for you to feel the benefits I do and did." |
