Managing your Energy |
| Many of you will have heard the words “pacing”,
“base line”, “boom & bust” etc. But, how many
of you struggle with the day to day management of living with a condition
like ME? Some of our young people have been using “activity management” charts, to record their sleep pattern, how much “high” and “low” energy they use on a daily basis and how much rest or “chill out” time they build into their day. To keep it simple, the charts are colour coded: Blue = sleep, Red = high energy, yellow = low energy and green = rest. The four colours help identify any “boom & bust” patterns and aim to get you to using the same amount of time for ” high energy” activities each day. Once this pattern has been established for a couple of weeks, you can then safely and gradually built up your “high energy” activities to a level that is suitable for you and hopefully stops the “boom and bust”. The charts are also very good at regulating your sleep – so that you don’t sleep too much and that you sleep at the correct times of day. If any of you would like more information on this “self management” technique, please give the office a call. These charts aim to give you a better quality of life and still help you achieve your goals in a realistic way whilst living with ME. Contact the office on 0191 389 2222. |
